Take a Walk through Commodore Trail History
Get ready to be fascinated! Within just a few blocks, we'll visit Coconut Grove historical sites that tell the stories of the pioneers who transformed Coconut Grove from a tropical wilderness into a thriving community.
Learn about Ralph Munroe, the original "Commodore," the Peacocks who ran the Peacock Inn, the Housekeepers Club of Coconut Grove, the black Bahamian community, and much more, including flora and fauna along the Trail.
Our new trio of docents will spin the tales.
Mary Munroe Seabrook is a fourth-generation Coconut Grove resident and the great-granddaughter of Commodore Ralph Munroe. Mary is passionate about preserving our local history and specializes in gardening and local plants.
Jackie Gross Kellogg, born in Chile and raised on Easter Island and Key Biscayne, is a true Islander. As a Naturalist, she shares her knowledge about our ecosystems and how they connect to Biscayne Bay. She also weaves in tales of local history and indigenous cultures.
Emerson Fales is a Miami native and a 15-year veteran tour guide who has led walking, biking, and kayaking tours across South Florida. He enjoys showing both the natural wonders and human-caused eccentricities of South Florida.
** The Tour will use a mobile audio app so that everyone can hear our guide clearly. An iPhone or Android phone and earphones are required. Details and links to download and set up the App will be provided upon ticket purchase.
Tour proceeds benefit Friends of the Commodore Trail (501 c3), a local advocacy group that works to preserve and improve the historic 5-mile recreational trail that runs through Coconut Grove.
